CAB-O-SIL® LM-150 is a low surface area fumed silica. It is designed to increase the viscosity and reinforcement of liquid and polymer systems.

 

CAB-O-SIL LM-150 is primarily used to modify the thixotropy of silicone rubber sealants and to reinforce silicone rubber.

Typical Applications

 

Silicone Rubber Sealants
The primary application of CAB-O-SIL LM-150 is in RTV-1 and RTV-2 
silicone rubber sealants. Among untreated compressed fumed silicas, LM-150 offers the best balance between dispersibility, thixotropy, and reinforcing properties. While fumed silicas with higher surface areas can provide better thixotropy and reinforcing properties, they fail to achieve sufficient dispersion when using the low-shear mixing equipment widely employed in the sealant industry.

 

Silicone Rubber
CAB-O-SIL LM-150 can be used for the reinforcement of HTV/HCR. 
Although it only moderately increases hardness, tensile strength, and elongation, it is the easiest untreated fumed silica to disperse. Because untreated fumed silica has a hydrophilic surface, surface modification of the silica is necessary to prevent gum.

 

Packaging & Shipping

CAB-O-SIL LM-150 is packaged in multi-wall kraft paper bags, each weighing 10 kg, with a specification of 18 × 10 kg (net weight 180 kg), and coated with polyethylene. The product is also available in 150 kg flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC).
